Fasano Blasts ‘Disloyal' Dolfans

Dolphins TE cannot fathom why fans would chant 'Suck for Luck' or cheer for Tim Tebow

An ugly Miami Dolphins season got a little bit uglier Tuesday when Dolphins TE Anthony Fasano criticized the portion of Dolfans who showed up in droves to cheer former University of Florida star Tim Tebow last weekend. For good measure, he threw in some shots at fans hoping the team will tank the rest of the season in order to draft Stanford QB Andrew Luck as well.

With Tebow's Denver Broncos in town to play the Dolphins, Miami saw its sagging home attendance spike, thanks to the opportunity for local fans to cheer the Gators' former football messiah.

But that spike in attendance was not worth it, Fasano said during an appearance on WFAN New York's Joe and Evan show.

"Yeah it was awful," Fasano said of Sunday's Tebowstock. "Showing up at the stadium and seeing all the Gator stuff and the Tebow stuff... was disheartening, but as players we kind of put ourselves in that position because the Dolphins are in the business of winning football games and making money."

At least Fasano understands that the Dolphins would not have needed to rely on Tebow to get fans to show up to Sun Life Stadium if they could actually win a game every now and then.

But that was nothing compared to his thoughts on those Dolphins fans who want the team to Suck for Luck.

"It's sick actually," Fasano complained "I can’t even fathom those thoughts of those people that conjure up that stuff."

Fasano resorted to every athlete's tried and true response to critiques from non athletes: the "You never played the game" card. "They have never played sports and pretty much aren’t really our loyal fans. I can’t really put any weight into that and I know the players don’t listen to it."

Like his teammates that have criticized the Suck for Luck movement, Fasano does not get it. The Suck for Luck contingent loves the Dolphins, but they think the current incarnation of the Dolphins must go.

They have watched their favorite team mired in mediocrity for a decade, and would rather see the team clean house and suffer now if it means a better chance of success later.

This probably means coach Tony Sparano, Fasano, and a bunch of his teammates will be out of a job at the end of the season. So it's easy to see why Fasano doesn't like it. The Suck for Luck fans love the Dolphins. They just don't like Fasano.
