The Aetrex Navistar GPS Shoes (not the pair shown in this file image) are outfitted with GPS technology that will help track Alzheimer's patients.
A new pair of sneakers may help cut down on Silver Alerts, thanks to GPS-tracking technology.
The Aetrex Navistar GPS Shoes, designed to help Alzheimer's patients who suffer from dementia and are prone to wandering off, are outfitted with a GPS system in the heel of the sneaker, which accurately pinpoints the wearer’s location.
The technology would allow relatives to view the location of the person through a smart phone app or on a computer. The family would also be able to designate a safe area, with an alert being triggered if the wearer goes beyond the boundary.
For now, the sneakers are only on sale in the UK and retail for £250 (about $400), according to the Daily Mail.
