New Facebook Changes Met With Hostility

Social networking site has rearranged its news feed into top stories -- based on what it thinks users will find most interesting

Facebook has made many changes before, but none have been met with such hostility.

The social network's newest feature set, unveiled late Tuesday night, doesn't just show you what your friends post anymore. Now, it's grouping posts as top stories - what it thinks you will find most interesting.

"I'm too used to the old Facebook and I can't get into the new one," said Nova Southeastern University freshman Syed Hussain.

Fellow student Candace Moore logged off as soon as she logged on "because it was annoying. They keep changing it."

According to Facebook, top post groupings is how newspapers display their content and the site is trying to summarize what it thinks users would like the most. If users don't agree with the choices Facebook made, there is a blue triangle in the top left corner of the story they can click to remove a top story or turn a normal post into a top story.

For many, it's just too confusing.

"I want it to go back to the way it used to be," Moore said.

There is also a 'new friend list' and real-time ticker feature.

"It has a constant feed on the side that tells you want everyone is doing at the moment," Nova senior Juan Vizcarrondo said.

The changes came on the same day Google+ debuted it's 'hangout' feature, in which users can interact with their friends face-to-face using video.

Some frustrated Facebook users may make the switch to Google+ plus, but Vizcarrondo is sticking with Facebook.

"It doesn't bother me at all."
