Randi Zuckerberg wants youngsters to put down the gadgets and go outside.
“I know it seems like a very retro concept to actually unplug for a bit. But that’s why it was so important for me to write “Dot,’” she told NBC 6. “You see 2-year-olds, 3- year-olds that are just navigating tons of technology, who are so tech savvy already. I think it’s important at that young age to encourage kids to go outside and be creative.”
The sister of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has been writing books for children and adults, and released two new ones called "Dot Complicated," which is for adults and “Dot,” for kids, which encourages children to take a break from technology.
“’Dot’ is about a tech savvy little girl who learns to put down her gadgets and go play outside,” Zuckerberg said. “And ‘Dot Complicated’ is about my very own complicated relationship with technology and how all of us have a bit of a complicated relationship with tech.”
Zuckerberg, who left Facebook in 2011 to form her own firm, Zuckerberg Media, said she was at the frontline of many projects in Facebook but is glad to now have her own project.
“I’m excited these books are kind of my first, my own project for myself,” she said.

Zuckerberg said that although the two books are targeted to very different audiences, they go together.
“They are both about appreciating the beauty of the world around us,” she said. “Not being buried in a mobile phone or a device.”
