Broward Beer and Beef Bandit Busted: BSO

A man wanted for a series of beer and steak thefts throughout Broward County has been arrested, authorities said.

David Wayne Kirkwood, 49, is facing petty theft charges following his arrest early Thursday, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.

According to the BSO, Kirkwood had targeted five Publix grocery stores in Weston in the past few weeks, stealing cases of beer and packages of meat. He was also wanted to similar thefts in Plantation, Davie and Cooper City.


An alert deputy spotted Kirkwood at the Seminole Indian Truck Stop at 4690 U.S. Highway Thursday, after a "Be On the Lookout" had been issued.

Kirkwood has a criminal history dating back to 2002, including arrests for battery, cocaine possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, burglary, burglary of an occupied dwelling, grand theft and violation of probation, the BSO said.

Kirkwood was booked into Broward Jail on $3,750 bond. It was unknown whether he has an attorney.
