Burglars Accidentally Call 911 During Robbery

Burglar calls 911 by mistake

There is stupidity and then there is this.

A bungling pair of teen burglars were caught red-handed breaking into cars after the cell phone in one of the suspects' pockets accidentally called 911, reports WESH.

How that happens is beyond bad luck, but one of the burglars had a pretty good explanation while she was still robbing the vehicle.

"Trust me, God always works in mysterious ways. If you be greedy, that's when you get caught up, alright?" 19-year-old Stefanie Vargas told her 13-year-old accomplice as she taught him the ways of an idiot burglar.

Vargas was unaware that she had called 911 and the operator heard most of the Burglary 101 lesson before dispatching Daytona Beach police.

"Let me see," Vargas says on the phone.

"When I beep the horn it means the cops are on their way, you hear me? You promise you hear me?" a muffled voice, allegedly Vargas', is overheard saying.

"Look in here, in the glove compartment. They have, like, GPSs or something." "Oh, I didn't even think about that." "That's where the GPSs are at," the callers allegedly said.

"You got to break the SIM card. Take that SIM card out. They can trace it," the caller said. "If there's nothing there, leave it. Trust me, God always works in mysterious ways. If you be greedy, that's when you get caught up, alright?"

When officers arrived, they caught the suspects with merchandise from the stolen car still in tow.

"This has to go down as the world's stupidest criminals," Police Chief Mike Chitwood said.
