Car Insurance Company Encourages Teens to Text

Texting while driving is especially dangerous if you leave your car door open.

This one gets a little complex so get out a pen and paper and follow along.

Car insurance company wants South Florida teens to vow not to text and drive. So to drive home point, they offer free concert tickets to a Jordin Sparks concert to the teen with the most text messages in a month.

And how exactly is that supposed to encourage kids to keep their thumbs on the wheel and not on their cell phones?

The contest, sponsored by AllState Insurance, has picked a winner and the adolescent allegedly has sent over 38,000 text messages in a month. And that's just from a teen who has a driver's license.

Another South Florida teen, who is in the process of getting a license, went above and beyond the call of duty and thumbed out 50,000 texts.

OMG! indeed. Aren't we supposed to be in good hands with AllState?

Distracted drivers are responsible for about 25 percent of traffic accidents in the state, and nothing is more distracting than a cell phone that's buzzing with the latest gossip or Facebook update.

Which is why, when the winning texters are announced tomorrow, they will publicly sign non-legally binding pledges to "X the TXT while driving." They must also encourage their friends and family to do the same.
