Lost $90,000 Engagement Ring Found Through Classified Ad: Paper

The ad ran in the Pensacola News Journal Monday

A woman is getting her lost $90,000 diamond engagement ring back because of a classified ad in the Pensacola News Journal, the newspaper reported.

The local woman was given the ring seven years ago when her husband proposed, but on April 22 she took it off as she washed her hands during lunch at the Grand Marlin restaurant on Pensacola Beach, the News Journal said.

She left it there – only realizing 20 or so minutes later that her 5.02-carat ring was missing.

She and her husband, who asked not to be identified in the News Journal, frantically searched for the ring, even hiring a private investigator.

On Monday they put an ad in the paper promising a “large reward” for piece of jewelry, “no questions asked” – and a Pensacola reader who saw it realized that her friend had found that same ring at the Grand Marlin, the News Journal reported.

The friend returned the ring to law enforcement in Belleair, near Tampa, where she lives, telling them she thought it was “costume jewelry,” the paper said.

Said the husband: “Classified ads work.”
