A Broward man attempted a quick swim away after he was caught trying to steal a truck and a bottle of wine from a gas station Monday morning.
The unnamed suspect was quickly caught by police after he jumped into a lake, but couldn't swim.
The botched robbery happened at the Race Track gas station on Davie Road. The man allegedly snatched a bottle of wine from the shelves then jumped into a truck that was at the pump and sped off.
Police quickly joined the pursuit and the man crashed the pick up truck. But instead of surrendering, the suspect figured he would turn the pursuit into a triathlon competition. He ran for a few blocks and then jumped into the water.
That wasn't the best idea because he needed the cops to come rescue him after he made about halfway across. A rescue boat was called in to pull the man out and he was taken to jail all wet.
