While it’s not uncommon for cigarette smokers to get cranky if they are suffering through nicotine withdrawal symptoms, Darren Daniels pretty much went over the edge.

After suspecting his wife of taking his last cigarette, the 22-year-old Deland man reportedly became enraged and grabbed her in a violent way.

He then allegedly grabbed a pet rat from a tank and smashed its head before strangling it as his wife ran out the door and hid outside where she apparently called the cops.

But Daniels drove off before they could confront him. Eventually they chased him down and used stop sticks to flatten his tires.

He was arrested and charged with battery and fleeing and eluding. No word yet if he will be charged with animal cruelty.
