Miramar Neighbor of Burglary Victim Unwittingly Gave Suspect a Ride: Police

He drove the burglar to Publix, police said

The neighbor of a Miramar burglary victim unwittingly helped the suspect get away by giving him a ride, police said.

The suspect fled with electronics and jewelry after his burglary of a home on the 2700 block of Southwest 64th Terrace on Monday between 10:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m., Miramar Police said in a statement.

The suspect asked the neighbor for a ride to Publix at 6890 Miramar Parkway and was driven there, according to police.

Surveillance video shows the suspect carrying items police said were taken from the home. He put them in the car before he and the driver got into the vehicle.

Miramar Police spokeswoman Tania Rues emphasized that the driver had nothing to do with the burglary.

“He thought he was doing a good deed by giving someone a ride, and it turned out that this was someone who burglarized his neighbor’s home,” Rues said.

Authorities ask anyone with information on the identity of the suspect to contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. A reward could be offered for information that leads to an arrest, police said.
