New Jersey Man Finds Overdue Library Book … 72 Years Later

A central New Jersey man says he must have lost track of the book about football that he checked out of his local library.

That's a little bit of an understatement, since Frank Ryan has had the book for 72 years.

The Bound Brook resident tells News 12 New Jersey he recently discovered the book, "Football Through The Years," in his attic.

He'd checked it out when he was 11 years old, in 1944.

Back then the library levied a two-cent-per-day fine for overdue books. That would amount to more than $500 now.

Ryan jokes that he hopes he doesn't go to jail. He added that he doubts there's anyone alive at the library that would know about the book.
