One-Way Trip: Man Arrested After Calling 911 for Plane Ticket

Man called 911 twice to get a plane ticket to Guatemala

A trip to Guatemala was a little too far for cops to grant a South Florida man's wish. But they were more than accommodating to give him a ride to jail.

In another hilarious example of 911 abuse, Baudillo Salamon Aguilar-Lopez was arrested for allegedly calling the emergency line and asking for the price of a ticket from the Palm Beach International Airport to his native Guatemala. He also asked the operator for a taxi ride, reports WPTV.

Moments later, a Martin County Sheriff's deputy knocked on Aguilar-Lopez's door to warn him that calling 911 for non-emergencies could land him a one-way ticket to the slammer. The man was drunk, an arrest report said.

Only 20 minutes after the deputy left, Aguilar-Lopez's yearning for his home country struck him once again and he called 911 up a second time with the same question. Maybe his Internet wasn't working and he couldn't hop on a website.

The deputy hadn't gone far so when he arrived back to the home, Aguilar-Lopez was still on the phone with the operator/travel agent.

"I asked him if he wanted a ticket to Guatemala," the deputy wrote in the arrest report. "He stated that he did."

Just to help Aguilar-Lopez out, the cheapest price for a ticket to Guatemala is about $560. The ride to the jail was free.

But being an idiot will always be priceless.
