Horse Statue Slaughterers on the Loose

$3,500 statue fetched $900 in scrap metal

Zackie Jerome Knox appeared in a Broward County courtroom Monday morning on grand theft charges for dealing in stolen property.  Knox was also charged with possession of a gun by a covicted felon.  Knox  has to scrape up $9500 to get out of jail.

Investigators say that Knox was seen going to Rapid Metal Recycling with 250 pound horse statue.

The bronze statue was stolen from in front of the Polo Club, a new nightclub and restaurant in Pembroke Park, by four men looking for an easy way to get scrap metal to sell.

The $3,500 statue was supposed to be part of the Polo Club's grand opening, but instead the regal stallion became a part of a quick cash scheme.

The suspects stole the horse on December 19th,  broke it into pieces and then sold it to Rapid Metal Recycling for $900, investigators said.

Authorities are still on  the hunt for suspects who managed to steal the statue from its home originally.
