A woman was arrested for cursing at and slapping a park manager who stopped her from  jumping out of a rented canoe and into a river that had restricted access, authorities said.

But after being told not to swim, Barbara Lynn Vanpatten, began calling the park manager names and slapping him on the chest, the Hernando County Sheriff's Office arrest report said.

Vanpatten, 36, from Spring Hill, was at Weeki Wachee River on Sunday with another woman and the woman's two children, when a tour guide called the park manager, David Hramika, to inform him that she had been swimming in unauthorized waters, the report said.

When Hramika arrived, Vanpatten got back on the canoe and began rocking it until it flipped over, according to the report.

Hramika rescued the two children and was able to put them back into the canoe, the report said. He then put Vanpatten into his boat to bring her back to the park.

On their way back, she began calling him names, slapping him and rocking the boat in attempts to flip it over, authorities said. She then threw his cell phone in the water, the arrest report said.

When Vanpatten was being arrested, she gave a fake name and resisted her arrest by pulling away and dragging her feet, the report said.

Deputies believe Vanpatten was intoxicated at the time of her arrest, the report said.

She was released Tuesday from the Hernando County Jail on a $1,500 bond, and she faces charges including battery, resisting an officer without violence and resisting identification. It wasn’t immediately known if she had an attorney.
