A Brevard County woman is facing charges after police said she ate almost 12 grams of marijuana found in her car, reported NBC affiliate WESH.
Authorities apprehended 45-year-old Tavish Smith Friday after she was involved in two car crashes, including a hit-and-run, according to WESH.
When Florida Highway Patrol troopers found Smith, she had crashed into a ditch, was drunk and had marijuana on the floorboard of her truck, the station reported.
Once she was handcuffed in the back of the trooper's patrol car, dashcam footage shows Smith slipping out of her handcuffs, crawling through the dividing window between the back and front seats, grabbing the marijuana and eating it. The trooper, who had gone to Smith's car to grab her flip flops, hears her cough and realizes what happened.
Troopers told WESH the misdemeanor marijuana possession charge would turn into a felony after Smith's attempts to eat the pot.
Smith was also charged with hit-and-run, drunken driving and driving on the wrong side of the road, according to WESH.
