Ryan Phillips is the weekend evening meteorologist for NBC 6

Ryan Phillips is the weekend evening meteorologist for NBC6. He's been forecasting Florida weather since 2003, having worked on both the Gulf and Atlantic coasts. Before joining the NBC6 Weather Team, Ryan worked for WZVN, the ABC affiliate for Naples/Ft. Myers, where he spent two years forecasting for the weekend morning and evening broadcasts.

Ryan was part of the forecast team in August of 2004 that watched historic Category 4 Hurricane Charley make landfall in Southwest Florida. Soon after his arrival in South Florida, he put that valuable experience to use as hurricanes Katrina and Wilma wreaked havoc across our community. Since then, Ryan has helped South Florida through close calls with 2016’s Matthew and 2017’s Irma.

Prior to moving to Florida, Ryan worked more than three years at KHGI in Central Nebraska, where his weathercasts were recognized by the Associated Press of Nebraska.

Born and raised in Ohio, Ryan is a graduate of Ohio University, where he majored in geography and meteorology while also serving as a tutor and part-time instructor for the Department of Geography. Conveniently enough, Ryan's interests drew him to tropical weather and hurricane impact on populated coastal locations.

Ryan holds the Seal of Approval from the National Weather Association. Through the National Weather Association, Ryan and his family fund a national scholarship for undergraduate college students majoring in meteorology.

He also holds the designation as a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist from the American Meteorological Society.

Locally, Ryan is an active volunteer and supporter for the Humane Society of Greater Miami and a supporter South Florida based “FLIPANY” and Miami Rescue Mission.

Ryan enjoys speaking to schools and local organizations about weather awareness and hurricane preparation.
