Bob Mayer is South Florida's most tenured television newscaster, having logged more hours in the field and more hours at the anchor desk than any other South Florida television journalist.

Mayer began his career at WTVJ as an intern, then worked his way from photographer to street reporter to anchor. He has reported the news in South Florida since 1963, when he began his career as a high school correspondent for Miami radio station WFUN.

Mayer joined WTVJ News in June of 1969. Over the years, he's been the station's science and medical reporter, investigative and consumer reporter, crime reporter, business reporter, general assignment reporter and talk show co-host. He has served as anchor of WTVJ's early evening newscasts, weekend newscasts, and midday and morning newscasts.

Since 1990, Mayer has been co-anchoring the NBC 6 morning show, "Today In South Florida." From 5:00 to 7:00 a.m., Bob and co-anchor Pam Giganti take a unique look at the news through eyes tempered with experience.

In fact, if you haven't caught Bob and Pam's "Morning Buzz" segment, you're missing a real treat. You can see the 'Buzz' live each morning at 5:48 and 6:48 a.m.

Bob multi-tasks in his role at 11 a.m. daily as co-host of South Florida's only locally-produced news, talk and variety program, aptly titled "South Florida Today." Bob joins Trina Robinson and Roxanne Vargas to highlight the things that make up the fabric of our community: the people, places, the events and even the food that make South Florida famous around the world.

In 2001, the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) awarded Mayer the coveted Silver Circle Award for a quarter century of contributions to South Florida television. As a recipient of the Silver Circle, Mayer joins a list of television journalists that reads like a Who's Who in South Florida Television history. The list includes such broadcasting icons as Ralph Renick, Bob Weaver, Hank Tester, Jim Brosemer, Ann Bishop, Dwight Lauderdale, Bernie Rosen, Ike Seamans and Don Browne.

In 2004, Bob was elected to the Coral Gables High School Hall of Fame, joining a select group of Gables graduates.

Outside the station, Mayer is active in the community, assisting such organizations as the Children's Bereavement Center, the Miami International Book Fair and the Actor's Playhouse. Bob has also been elected to the board of the South Florida Railroad Museum and is a frequent visitor to local schools.

Bob also enjoys spending time with his family and with his classic cars. He and his son Chad are both avid antique car enthusiasts. Mayer is Past President of the Antique Automobile Club of America, South Florida Region, having served as President for a record seven terms. He holds the title of 'Editor Emeritus' for the AACA monthly Magazine, 'Sidelights,' having served as Editor of the magazine for a record five years.
