John Gerard Visits Area Schools

John Gerard was busy visiting some area schools on Wednesday.
First, he was the speaker at Driftwood Middle School in Hollywood. During their career day, he explained to over 250 students from 6th to 8th grade what it takes to pursue a successful career in meteorology.
He explained what his typical day is like and how TV meteorologists have to be good communicators. They also learned that if you are camera-shy, there are plenty of other opportunities to be a weather forecaster for the government, the military, or another private industry.
Then, John headed to Cooper City to Pioneer Middle School for the annual "Community Read-In Day,” where successful members of the community stopped by the school and spent a portion of their day encouraging students to read more.
He expressed to over 100 students the importance of getting into good reading habits now, and he shared information about hurricane season and seasonal forecasting.
John says, “hopefully, students learned two things today: to take time to read more, and to think about a career in meteorology."
