8/10: Raise Your Glass or Kick Some Dirt

Wine pairings, foul balls and a francophile happy hour

IN IT TO WYN IT: We're not sure when $40 for dinner became "cheap," but if there's wine involved - as is the case tonight for the Recessionista Wine Dinner at Joey's in Wynwood - we're thinking we can justify it. The American Institute of Wine & Food hosts this one, which will feature a 3-course summer menu paired with Italian vino. 305-663-9641 to RSVP. 7 P.M.

SMELLS LIKE TEAM SPIRIT: We think it's kinda cute that Houston named their baseball team after the dog on "The Jetsons," which is why we're all about tonight's game between the Marlins and the Astros. Bonuses include 4 free tickets to those who are unemployed and bring their government papers to prove it, and $25 toward future tickets to those who show up with four or more people in one car. 7 P.M.

WHY SO BLUE? Because you're at Au Pied Cochon - the new(ish) 24-hour French resto in SoFi - for their Blue Hour, a tribute to Picasso, we're thinking. Premium cocktails are $5, house wine is $6 and house beer is $4. Now's also the time to sample their eats by ordering a few selections from the chef's bar menu. Tres bon. 4-7 P.M.
