Dashboard Confessional to Play Benefit Shows for Lynn Students

Three concerts on Boca college campus for Haiti quake victims

South Florida alt rockers Dashboard Confessional will be holding a series of benefit concerts at the end of the month to honor the students and faculty of Lynn University who were killed in the devastating earthquake in Haiti.

The concerts will all be played on the college's Boca Raton campus and will range from an ultra-exclusive $300 per ticket show to an affordable $20 open air  concert.

Proceeds raised will go toward the Lynn University Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Lead singer Chris Carrabba, a Boca native who still keeps a home in the area, said in a statement that the concerts will be a "celebration of the lives" of the students who died while on a "Journey of Hope" to the island nation.

"The disaster in Haiti touched my heart, but when I learned about the individual stories of the Lynn students it struck close to home," Carrabba said. "I shared in the grief of the loss we all felt - but decided I wanted to also be part of the celebration of each of their lives."

The first show is a VIP unplugged performance by Carrabba at Lynn's Keith C. and Elaine Johnson Wold Performing Arts Center on April 30 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $300 and include a second ticket to the 8 p.m. show where Dashboard Confessional will perform with the Lynn University Philharmonia Orchestra. Tickets to the 8 p.m. show are $75.

The final show will be held the next night, May1, on the campus' intramural field. It'll be free for Lynn students and $20 for anyone else.

The group from Lynn had arrived just a day before the quake hit and were all at the Hotel Montana in Port-au-Prince. Four students and two faculty members were killed when the hotel collapsed.

The deceased include Britney Gengel, 19, from Rutland, Mass., Courtney Hayes, 23, of Douglas, Ga., Christine Gianacaci of Hopewell, N.J., Stephanie Crispinelli of Katonah, N.Y., and professors Dr. Patrick Hartwick and Dr. Richard Bruno.
