Miami's Independent Thinkers

It's good to break away from the herd.

This year there will be yet another alternative to Art Basel, one of the largest annual art fairs. Besides out of towner fairs like NADA and Scope, a group of influential locals are coming together to get their own Miami thing started called Miami’s Independent Thinkers. Tonight, they will be fundraising for their new endeavor at an event appropriately titled, Miami’s Independent Thinkers Fundraiser.

This will a collaborative multimedia art exhibition, showcasing South Florida artists, both established and emerging. This sub-satellite fair will coincide with Art Basel Miami Beach in early Decemner. Miami Independent Thinkers will act as a tool to show the rest of the world what their artists are all about, offering them additional legitimacy in the hugely confusing world of art. The fundraiser starts tonight at 7 and will take place at the Miami Art Space. All proceeds will go toward staging the future fair and the events will include a silent auction of the work of such local artists as Adler Guerrier, Bruce Grayson, Francesco LoCastro, Kandi Stirman, Karelle Levy, Rollin Stirman, Ross Ford, Tao Rey and more.

This is your chance to mingle with the artists and to enjoy chow and booze. There will be a live performance by Cleaveland Jones and music by DJs Ray Milian, Uprokk, Joshy Josh & PC and thus, a party atmosphere. The minimum is only $10, definitely an affordable chance to get involved and network. The afterparty is at Vagabond’s Shake, a night that will be celebrating one year of dancing both booty, funk and hip hop in Overtown.
