Veterans Know Their G&Ts

The Miami Beach watering hole made Details' best dive bars list. Cheers!

Miami Beach is best known for its over-the-top, $300 for a $40 bottle of vodka lounges. So it's heartening to see that Miami Beach even made a Details' list of best dive bars.

Tucked away in the basement (or at least Miami's version of a basement) of The Floridian condo just off the MacArthur Causeway is the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3559, or, simply the VFW. Despite the luxurious digs in which its housed, the VFW keeps it old school (it's been there since the '30s) with cheap drinks, seasoned, down-to-earth bartenders, a jukebox and pool. And VFW takes the "dive bar" moniker literally, as the place has one heckuva bay view.

"The door is locked. There is a camera and they have to let you in. Apparently, my friends and I managed to meet whatever code was required for entrance," commented Loudes W. on Yelp. "... There aren't many people there... so just befriend the bartender and the random veterans. They are a riot and I'm sure they'll share stories with you. I've spent hours there with friends who used to live in the building and I also proudly visited the VFW after they moved. No matter who's behind the bar--they are always glad you came."
