Couture Cookies

Local turns cookie addiction into a business

For 27-year-old Marisa Scime, cookies have always been her guilty pleasure--so much that she was dubbed the "Cookie Monster" while growing up.

Today, the Downtown resident has taken her cookie addiction and turned it into a business called Cookie Monkey, for which she bakes a variety of couture cookies, cookie cakes and cookie cupcakes and delivers them fresh daily.

“I started baking them for friends' birthdays, special events, and work functions, and they became the specially requested item at all functions,” said Scime.

“Then one day I made a cookie cake for a birthday party and my recipe was exposed to a new group of people and they freaked out and said it was the best cookie they ever had,” she added.

Since then Scime’s business has blossomed and plans to open up her first retail location are in the works.

Her cookies are oversized and made using healthy ingredients like whole-wheat flour, freshly ground oatmeal and the finest butters and sugars.

Although she only offers three variations, customers can make special requests.

“I can mix in any candy or item people would like in the dough,” she said.

Her claim to fame is her classic chocolate chip, called "No Monkeying Around," which she came up with after tweaking her grandmother’s recipe.

Then there’s her peanut butter cookie called "Go Nuts" and her tribute to the Oreo cookie called "Say it Ain't O."

If cake is more your thing, then try her cookie cakes or her cookie cupcakes which also come mini-sized.
