Old Navy to Replace Cash Registers With iPods

Two of the Bay Area's most well known companies are getting into bed together.

Apple has finally launched its EasyPay point-of-sale system that is uses in its own stores for third party vendors and the iPod maker has its first customer.

The Gap's Old Navy division has reportedly signed on to use the iPod-looking devices to check customers out with their purchases.

Apple has been using the technology for years, which has helped eliminate the need for standing in line at some stores. You simply find what you are looking for, find an Apple employee anywhere in the store and check out with a credit card.

The system will also allow Old Navy to print customer receipts wirelessly to nearby printing stations.

The move is expected to help Old Navy deal with the holiday shopping rush by being able to check out customers quicker.
