Group Deal Sites Go Local

Dozens of daily deal websites are popping up, offering consumers 50-90 percent off services in Miami

Daily deal website Groupon.com has become all the rage in recent months by offering a significant savings on things we all splurge on: spa services, restaurants, entertainment, and so on.

But now, Groupon has company. Dozens of new daily deal websites have popped up, giving you, the consumer, lots of choices when it comes to saving dough. You can kiss the days of cutting coupons goodbye, it's the digital age of finding a deal, with discounts of anywhere from 50 to 90 percent off.

Groupon became so popular, so fast, that David Horn and Francisco Gonzalez, of Miami, decided to start a similar website. Couptessa.com launched late summer 2010. It features one deal per day and the deal is intended for women who live in Miami.

"In a time of recession everyone loves a deal," said Horn. "My partner Francisco Gonzalez and I looked at this and we said this is really something we could do better."

Christina Kesaris owns Emena Spa in the Design District. She offered a deal on Groupon for laser hair removal; six laser hair removal treatments (which is an $1,800 value) for just $99. Close to 1,700 people snatched up the deal with in hours.

"It's brought recognition to our business. We have gained a lot of amazing clients that wouldn't have otherwise heard of our spa or tried our serivces," said Kesaris. "It was a great advertising tool for us."

Groupon is especially popular among women. Yanin Carvallo, of North Miami Beach, checks the website every day, because every day the website features a new deal. And when she finds a good deal, she tells her friends, and they tell their friends.

"It's way easier," she said. "You just get the email on the Blackberry, just click, buy, and that's it."

Here are some of the daily deal websites you can try: Yippit.com, Groupon.com, Couptessa.com, Livingsocial.com, Chicdom.com (coming soon), daisydeals.com and youvegottagetit.com
