Car Crash Kills Two Teens, Injures Another

A fatal crash leaves two dead and another in critical condition

The names of the victims involved in a fatal car crash that occurred on 17th avenue of the Dolphin Expressway have been released.

Police say driver Alejandra Maria Gomez, 17, and front passenger Jenifer Garcia, 18, died on impact. The rear passenger, Tatiana Davila, was sent to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson in critical condition.

"My mom is destroyed. It's her little girl," says Lisette German, Gomez's older sister. "She doesn't seem to cope with it. She feels like she wishes they would've taken her instead of Alejandra."

According to the police report, the girls were speeding in a green Saturn traveling westbound around 2:30 a.m. last night when the car lost control and slammed into the median and pole dividing the expressway.

The car split in half, sending the rear end of the car flying into the eastbound lanes with Davila still strapped to her seat.

"I just feel like part of me is gone and is never going to come back," German said after wiping her tears.

Both east and westbound lanes on the 836 were reopened after hours of being shut down following the fatal crash.
