The second hurricane of the season could become a major hurricane by the weekend

Say hello to Hurricane  Katia.

With maximum sustained winds of 75 mph, the former tropical storm in the far Atlantic has become the second hurricane of the 2011 season.

At 11 p.m., Hurricane Katia was a Category One storm moving west-northwest at 20 mph about 1,165 miles east of the Leeward Islands.

Katia is expected to strengthen further over the next 48 hours, according the National Hurricane Center, and could become a major hurricane by the weekend.

NHC forecasters say it's too early to tell where Katia is heading. There are no coastal watches or warning in effect.
