Partly Cloudy and Warm with Highs in Mid-80s

Sunday will be warm and partly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of isolated showers and storms in the afternoon

Sunday is starting out nice, with a few morning showers before dawn. The day will warm quickly to the mid-80s in the afternoon.

A 30 percent chance of an isolated shower is expected in the afternoon and some could become strong to severe. This same pattern will be in place for the next seven days. Highs will stay in the mid-to-upper 80s, with a 30-40 percent chance of rain each afternoon.

As for the tropics, there is an early start on Hurricane Season. The season begins June 1, however, we have our first Tropical Storm off the South Carolina coast.

At  5 p.m. Sunday, Tropical Storm Alberto was located at about 105 miles southeast of Savannah, Ga., and about 210 miles south of Charleston, S.C., The National Hurricane Center said. It had maximum sustained winds of 45 mph and was moving southwest at six mph. It is expected to slow down and drift southward Sunday night. A northeastward acceleration was expected Monday night and Tuesday.

A tropical storm watch that was in effect for the South Carolina coast from the Savannah River to the South Santee River was dropped Sunday afternoon without tropical storm conditions reaching the coast.

The center of the storm was forecast to stay off of the Carolina and Georgia coasts.

The hurricane center said coastal interests from Georgia to the Outer Banks of North Carolina should monitor the storm.

Alberto was named a tropical storm Saturday upon forming in the Atlantic. It was the third tropical storm to form before the official June 1 start of the hurricane season in the past 31 years.

Forecasters said there is no evidence that early-forming storms mean more tropical storms and hurricanes for the rest of the season, especially with storms like Alberto that form from leftover weather fronts and low pressure systems moving off the mainland into the Atlantic.

The storm will not impact South Florida.
