Tropical Storm Lorenzo maintained maximum sustained winds of 40 mph Monday night, after the storm formed over the central Atlantic Monday afternoon, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said.

As of 11 p.m., Lorenzo was moving northeast at 9 mph about 685 miles east-southeast of Bermuda. It is the 12th tropical storm of the 2013 season.

It formed as a tropical depression over the ocean Monday morning.

There were no coastal watches or warnings in effect and no threats to land.

Tropical Storm Lorenzo is expected to turn toward the east-northeast or east on Tuesday and Wednesday, with little change in speed or strength, forecasters said.
