Rip Currents Risk on South Florida's Coast on Christmas Eve, Christmas

Swimmers are encouraged to stay out of the water along South Florida's Atlantic beaches due to the risk of rip currents between Tuesday at 7 p.m. and Wednesday at 7 p.m., the National Weather Service said.

The rip current risk will be in effect for coastal Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties, the National Weather Service said.

The hazardous rip currents were expected to develop Tuesday evening and continue through Wednesday.

Meanwhile, a cold front was advancing into South Florida Tuesday afternoon, spreading clouds and a brief chance for a shower.

The high on this breezy Tuesday will be 81 degrees.

Northerly winds behind the front will usher in a pleasant Christmas Eve, with partly cloudy skies and temperatures around 70.

Christmas morning will start with lows in the 60s, then rebound to the upper 70s for highs.

A slight chance of showers will hang into the holiday forecast with a fresh beach breeze established. The day will be mostly cloudy.

Expect better shower chances for Thursday and Friday. Both days will be partly sunny, with highs of 79 and 80, respectively.
