There is a potential for heavy rainfall throughout South Florida until Thursday, the National Weather Service said Tuesday.

Meteorologist Brad Diehl said that while widespread rain is not expected, it can rain over isolated locations at any moment. So, drivers should use caution.

As of Tuesday afternoon, there were heavy showers starting to develop over Atlantic waters and over Miami-Dade County.

The lower and middle Florida Keys will see rain, with more showers moving into metro Miami-Dade and Broward later in the afternoon.

The National Hurricane Center has placed a 30 percent chance of development on the disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico bringing us the rain.  It is slowly drifting to the north, and will continue to bring us higher than normal rain chances during the next several days.

Plan on a wet week, with the possibility of slow-moving tropical rains until the end of the week. By the weekend, South Florida should be back to a more “typical” weather pattern for the summer months.
