Carlos Ponce Honored With Latinovator Award

Puerto Rican star Carlos Ponce was honored with a Latinovator Award at Hispanicize 2013 for his more than two decades of work in the entertainment industry. Ponce, who has worked in both the English and Spanish markets, attended a special luncheon in his honor at the Eden Roc Hotel yesterday.

"Ponce's countless achievements in the acting, television and music industries make him a standout entertainer who has lasted the test of time," said Manny Ruiz, organizer and creative director of Hispanicize 2013. "Like other Latino visionaries, Ponce embodies what a crossover star is. His achievements have opened doors for many aspiring Latino artists and actors."

Latin Beat caught up with the "Couples Retreat" actor and he clued us in on his upcoming work, where he goes when he is in Miami,

Since becoming this big Hollywood star you aren't in Miami as often. When you're here where do you like to go?

"I love to go right here, to the beach. I also enjoy visiting Brickell and Midtown. I live in Pinecrest so I also enjoy the quiet when I need to get away from everything."

For those beautiful Miami days, what cocktails do you enjoy?

"Tequila is my go-to drink and of course I love anything with Kettle One. I did a special partnership with them where we invited people to come up with some entrepreneurial ideas, submit them, and they would get a grant if they won. I got a nice little spread in GQ Magazine so I was very honored."

You're currently working on a novela where you are racing cars. Is this an experience that you've enjoyed?

"I have the need for speed! I've participated in a few celebrity races around the nation and they're a lot of fun. I also own a couple of motorcycles, I've jumped out of planes, I've worked with the Blue Angels. I've done everything you can imagine."

Do you have any plans on working on something in the American market again?

"I'm working on a couple of things including an Indie comedy with a very dry sense of humor. I also have a couple of independent scripts; one is mine and one is a property that we acquired. I can't give you much more on that for now but hopefully it will all move forward sometime soon."
