NiteTalk: Broadcast Bigwig Jay Stevens on Hip Hop Heavy Radio One Fest

What do you get when you put one of the country's preeminent R&B & Hip Hop broadcasting companies in charge of an outdoor concert? A concert featuring some of R&B and Hip Hop's most eminent acts of course. Such will be the case this Saturday night when Radio One Fest brings the likes of T.I., Young Jeezy, Wale, Ice Cube, Waka Flocka Flame, DJ Khaled and more to Downtown Miami's Bayfront Park. Radio One VP Jay Stevens gives Niteside some background.

In a sentence, what is Radio One Fest?
Radio One Fest is our concert/show that brings the best in R&B and Hip Hop to Miami.

Will this be the first Fest held in Miami? Yes, it will.

Radio One has held Fests in other cities though, right? We have, but never one this big.

Who's behind the all-star line-up? We've a committee that colludes on the line-up, but I'm the one who reaches out to the various labels and management firms.

Would it be fair to say you spearhead the committee?
Yes, you could say that.

With Radio One in so many markets, it's probably moot to ask how you've landed such heavyweights? That's right. We're the dominant R&B and Hip Hop broadcasting/radio group in 15 different markets, so it's not too difficult to land an act.

The artists are probably eager to play, no?
Eager and excited.

Speaking of eager, Is there any one act that you yourself is particularly eager to catch? I'd have to say T.I. He hasn't been available for awhile; in fact he hasn't played Miami in over two years. And with all the hits he's had, it's bound to be incredible!

Radio One fest takes place Saturday July 7 at Bayfront Park's Klipsch Amphitheater. For more information log on here.
