Academy to Banksy: “No Disguises”

For grafitti artist "Bansky," anonymity is everything. But if he wants to collect an Oscar, he may have to finally show his face.

Banksy's debut film, "Exit Through the Gift Shop," is nominated for Best Documentary Feature, but the Academy has informed the artist that, should the film win, he cannot collect it in disguise.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Academy is apparently claiming that allowing Banksy to show up in a mask would invite gatecrashers.

Recently, an unknown person attempted to auction Banksy's identity on eBay for a starting price of $999,999, but the auction was taken down as it violated the terms of eBay's service.

After "Gift Shop" was nominated, Banksy released a statement saying:

"This is a big surprise. I don't agree with the concept of award ceremonies, but I'm prepared to make an exception for the ones I'm nominated for. The last time there was a naked man covered in gold paint in my house, it was me."
