Having chronicled the pain of losing loved ones to war in "The Messenger," writer-director Oren Moverman is moving on to the life and death of Kurt Cobain.
Moverman is in talks with NBC corporate partner Universal Studios to rewrite and direct a script originally developed by David Benioff ("The 25th Hour") about the late Nirvana frontman, according to The Hollwood Reporter. Benioff reportedly did extensive research in Aberdeen and Seattle, talking to those closest to Cobain, beginning in 2007.
For folks of a certain age, this is hallowed ground. Whether you like the band or not, there's no arguing with the fact that Nirvana was one of those rare bands that changed popular music with a sound previously unheard.
Adding to the anxiety surrounding the project is the fact that Courtney Love, Cobain's widow, is one of the film's executive producers.
Theories that Love had Cobain killed are stupid, cruel and baseless, but the woman has a history of being self-serving when she isn't being self-destructive, and the last thing Cobain's memory needs is to paint her in as flattering a light as possible.
