Tom Hanks Producing Web-Based Animated Sci-Fi Series for Yahoo

There's a new web-based animated sci-fi series that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where an apparent utopia rests on a foundation of lies and fear coming to Yahoo this spring.

Oh, and it's being produced by Tom Hanks.

Head-scratching is an appropriate response, but Yahoo has announced that they have 20 three- to- four-minute episodes of the Hanks-produced "Electric City" slated to air in a few months. The announcement came during the Consumer Electronics Show currently taking place in Las Vegas.

The series, about a seemingly peaceful city nestled in a post-apocalyptic world that struggles with dark secrets, is the first entry in Yahoo's new scripted program initiative and is being overseen by Playtone, which is Hanks' production company.

The "Larry Crowne" star had been tinkering with the concept for "Electric City" for some time - at one point planning it as a TV series with puppets. He will be voicing one of the characters, but no further details are available.

We can't wait to see what a Hanksian Apocalypse looks like...
