“Parks and Recreation's” Aziz Ansari To Host MTV Movie Awards

Bust out DJ Roomba! “Parks and Recreation” star and Twitter delight Aziz Ansari is in final negotiations to host the 2010 MTV Movie Awards. From the LA Times:

Insiders tell Show Tracker exclusively that the comedian and "Parks and Recreation" star is in final negotiations to host the 2010 MTV Movie Awards, slated to air live June 6 from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City

Meanwhile, it's safe to say demand for Ansari is only going to skyrocket from here: He's costarring in the Jonah Hill-Russell Brand comedy "Get Him to the Greek," out June 4; his new stand-up comedy tour, "Aziz Ansari: Dangerously Delicious Tour," kicks off this summer (tickets on sale for most cities); and NBC just picked up "Parks and Recreation" for a third season.

If anyone deserves this moment in the spotlight, it’s Ansari, who brings so much energy to everything he does that I half expect his head to burst into flames.

And it’s a solid move for the MTV Movie Awards. I remember, when they started these awards, they served as a self-deprecating alternative not only to the Oscars, but also to MTV’s own bloated and horrible Video Music Awards. But, somewhere along the way, the MTV Movie Awards became just as self-reverential and annoying as its sister award show. And that’s too bad, because I liked the old format of a couple skits, a small number of pointless awards, Jim Carrey in a krayzee disguise, and “Twilight” not winning anything, or even existing. Hopefully, Aziz can bring a little bit of that fun back.
