It's Friday! NBC 6 has the top stories you need to know in The Daily Mix.
Whether or not you work weekends, it's set to be a mostly lovely – though warm and humid – day across South Florida. An isolated morning shower is expected ahead of a mostly sunny, breezy afternoon.
The top stories:
No. 1 – The Mega Millions jackpot is at $970 million. What more do you need to know?! The odds of winning the nearly $1 billion jackpot are about one in 300 million. However, you can't win if you don't play! Officials are urging players to watch out for scams amid the societal hype.
No. 2 – Well, carve up a pumpkin on Halloween and call Laurie Strode! Michael Myers is back! The franchise "Halloween" celebrates its 40th anniversary with the release of a new film in which Jamie Lee Curtis reprises her role as Strode to confront the serial killer.
No. 3 – Burger King has released a new quarter-pound beef burger called "The Nightmare Burger." The fast-food franchise said it is "clinically proven" to give you nightmares. The Halloween-inspired burger, which has a green sesame seed bun, cheese and chicken, will be on sale until Nov. 1.
In a study released in early October, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said 36 percent of adults consume fast food on a given day. Consumption of fast food is associated with increased intake of calories, fat, and sodium, which is associated with health issues such as obesity and cardiovascular illnesses. That's the real nightmare, people.
No. 4 – Cardi B helped hand out free coats to families in need at a Brooklyn public housing complex. Thanks to the rapper, plenty of people dripping in finesse!
No. 5 – Marijuana-infused tampons are already being sold in California and Colorado and may soon be available elsewhere. The tampons have 60 milligrams of tetrahydrocannabinol, the psychoactive component in cannabis, and 10 milligrams of cannabidiol, a non-psychoactive agent.
The tampons, which cost more than $40 for a pack of four, are not designed to get people high.
