Ashlee Simpson: ‘Disgusted By The Headlines Concerning My Sister's Weight'

Ashlee Simpson-Wentz is coming to the defense of her sister Jessica Simpson after multiple reports surfaced on news Web sites and celebrity gossip blogs criticizing Jessica’s new shapely figure.

“I am completely disgusted by the headlines concerning my sister’s weight,” Ashlee wrote on her blog. “A week after the inauguration and with such a feeling of hope in the air for our country, I find it completely embarrassing and belittling to all women to read about a woman’s weight or figure as a headline on Fox News.”

Ashlee feels her sister’s celebrity status should not make her a target.“All women come in different shapes, sizes, and forms and just because you’re a celebrity, there shouldn’t be a different standard,” she said of Jessica, whose appearance at the at the Radio 99.9 Kiss Country’s annual Chili Cookoff on Sunday in Pembroke Pines, Florida over the weekend sparked the media scrutiny.

“Is this something you would say to your wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, or even a friend? I seriously doubt it.”

According to Ashlee, the media should be paying attention to more important topics. “How can we expect teenage girls to love and respect themselves in an environment where we criticize a size 2 figure?” Ashlee continued.

“Now can we focus on the things that really matter.”
