Glam Slam: Red Alert!

Tomorrow is “National Wear Red Day.” Just by wearing red, you can support and raise awareness for the fight against heart disease, which is the number one killer of women.

I can’t think of a better reason to put on the bold hue, but it can be a tricky shade to wear! Style Expert Jenn Falik shares the keys to the color.

“Don’t wear more than one red piece at a time,” Jen says. “There are so many different tones of red, it’s virtually impossible to find things that are a perfect match. So instead of risking a potential clash, complement one red item with other jewel toned pieces.” Jen recommends deep purples and blues. “Avoid primary colors though - you risk ending up looking like a first grade art project.”

Accessories are a great way to go. “The best red investment? A great pair of heels… they literally change up any outfit. Jeans and a white button down, a black cocktail dress - things you have had in your closet for years take on a whole new look.”

Katie Holmes proved this by pairing red heels with a simple white top and black skirt. While Sarah Jessica Parker (no shocker!) went a less traditional route, wearing red heels with a very pale pink dress. Take a cue from SJP and take a risk with red!

Since National Wear Red Day falls on a Friday… you may want to go out on the town. What better excuse to put on that red gown you’ve always wanted to wear? If you’re planning to glam it up with a dress, be sure it’s fitted. “It can be tempting when wearing a bright color to go with something on the flowy side so as to hide any potential body insecurities… but don’t do it!” While it doesn’t have to be skin tight, like Eva Longoria Parker’s Reem Acra at the Golden Globes (which looked amazing on her!), “it should definitely hug your body just enough to show you have shape and not swallow you whole.”

But no matter how you wear red tomorrow, remember the important thing is just doing it! There’s no better style statement then one that’s for a great cause.
