Sarah Jessica Parker, Lisa Kudrow To Trace Family Trees In New NBC Series

Sarah Jessica Parker, Lisa Kudrow and Susan Sarandon are about to learn a little more about themselves thanks to a new series NBC has lined up, which will look into the stars’ family trees.

“Who Do You Think You Are,” the latest venture from former “Friends” star Lisa Kudrow’s production company, Is or Isn’t Entertainment, in conjunction with the U.K.’s Wall to Wall productions, will take various celebrities through their family trees as they learn about their ancestry, which is often linked to major events in American history.

Viewers will watch as celebrities learn of the surprising, inspiring and sometimes tragic stories that lie at the heart of their family’s history. In the process, the show will take viewers back to old world history to expose how the lives of everyone’s collective ancestors shaped the world we live in today.

“This show personalizes history and turns it into a gripping narrative,” Lisa said in a statement. “The most striking thing about the show is the realization of how connected we all are.”

The program is already in its sixth season in the UK. A highlight from the UK version’s Season 5 took talk show host, Jerry Springer, on an emotional voyage.

The episode saw Jerry, who was born in London, go on a journey that explored how his parents were able to escape from Nazi Germany days before the star of World War II. He also traveled to former Jewish ghettos and Nazi death camps, where a tearful Jerry learned the fates of some of his family members.

“Who Do You Think You Are?” premieres April 20 at 8 PM.
