Emmy Rossum Designs “Emmy” Bag for Elie Tahari

Launching in March, Elie Tahari's "Emmy" canvas-lined leather bucket bags bring to fruition the collaboration between the designer and practical young actress.

Tahari has dressed Rossum for years, and, WWD reports, listened to her real-girl critiques of what she needs in a handbag. Being the savvy designer he is, he offered: "You come in and design it like you like."

What she likes, as it turns out, is an oversized, textured-leather bucket bag with plenty of interior pockets to keep iPod cords and lip gloss separate (an important factor, Rossum told WWD). Tahari seems pleased with the results. "I think that she created a very beautiful bag. It's very exciting and interesting." The bags will retail between $398-$798.

The actress cited her experience with Met Opera costumers during her tenure there as a young girl as inspiration for wanting to get involved with the design process, but doesn't plan on jumping into fashion full-force just yet. "One thing at a time,” she said. “I want to get really great at what I do first, then maybe later I’ll branch off. Right now I’ll leave it to the people who do it best.”
