‘Office' Star Mindy Kaling Inks Deal For Own Show

It appears Kelly Kapoor's days at "The Office" could be numbered.

Mindy Kaling, who plays the peppy pop-culture fascinated customer service rep Kelly on the hit NBC show, has inked a deal with the network to develop her own show, according to Variety.

Under the two-year, seven-figure deal, Kaling (who is also a writer and co-executive producer for "The Office"), will continue to star and write for the folks at Dunder-Mifflin while working on her new sitcom.

"This is my first step in a Transformers-style way to take over the whole world," Kaling said. "I've only ever worked for NBC, and I've felt an enormous amount of support from the executives there."

While the concept for the show has yet to take shape, the actress said she might explore another corporate setting or perhaps something more along the lines of HBO's "Flight of the Conchords."

"I've always wanted to do another show about women," she added.

Kaling's "Office" co-star Rainn Wilson offered his congratulations via his Twitter page and suggested a role he would like to play in her new series.

"Dear Mindy, I want to play 'Jim'-like guy please," he Tweeted, referring to John Krasinski's "Office" character.

In her response on the micro-blogging site, Kaling joking credited Wilson as her inspiration and offered her vision for his potential character.

"First of all, you're my muse. Secondly, I pictured you more as a sassy black guy who plays crossword puzzles," she wrote on her Twitter, referring to fellow "Office" character Stanley. "Into it??"

NBC primetime entertainment president Angela Bromstad said Kaling is a perfect fit for her own show with the network.

"Her comic sensibility is perfect for what we stand for in NBC comedy," Bromstad said.

Kaling's other acting credits include the HBO series "Curb Your Enthusiasm," as well as a few turns on the big screen in "License to Wed," "Unaccompanied Minors" and "The 40-Year-Old Virgin."
