Demi Lovato Thanks Fans for Support After Her Father Dies

Demi Lovato has broken her silence for the first time since her biological father Patrick passed away Saturday and has thanked her fans for their support.

"I feel so humbled to have had so much support from my fans, friends, family and complete strangers. God bless you all, thank you so much," Lovato tweeted on Sunday.

The 20-year-old singer and “X Factor” judge missed the show’s auditions over the weekend as she mourned her father, 53, who had been battling cancer for many years, according to Us Weekly.

Show creator and fellow judge Simon Cowell took to Twitter to show his support. "My thoughts are with you, Demi," he wrote.

Demi Lovato had had a rocky relationship with her father, from whom she had been estranged for many years. He and her mother had split when she was a toddler.

"The last time I talked to him was two years ago," Lovato had told the New York Daily News in 2009. "You try to have faith in somebody, even when you're the last person that believes in him. But when somebody lets you down after you've been the only one there for them, and so many times, you don't know what else to do."
