Elton John gave fans a free concert Saturday at the site of the old Tower Records store in West Hollywood.

The free hourlong performance took place at noon at 8801 Sunset Boulevard and guests were welcomed on a first come-first served basis.

"The City of West Hollywood has welcomed the Elton John AIDS Foundation and our annual Academy Awards Viewing Party with open arms for many years, providing us with the perfect environment to host a really fun and special evening," said John.

"We are profoundly grateful for their generous support, so I wanted to do something special just for them by giving our West Hollywood fans and supporters a surprise concert."

The performace was streamed live on AOL.com.

The 68-year-old pop star released his latest album earlier this month, titled "Wonderful Crazy Night.''

John will host his annual Oscars viewing party Sunday night at West Hollywood Park.
