Eva Longoria on Post-Divorce Weight Loss: “I Was Not Eating,” Got “So Skinny”

The actress opened up about how divorce impacted her health to Dr. Oz

Eva Longoria was, understandably, quite upset when her marriage to Tony Parker didn't work out.

In fact, the 38-year-old actress was so upset by their 2011 divorce that eating and sustaining her health became a problem. On Friday's episode of The Dr. Oz Show, Eva opened up about her post-split, stress-induced weight loss.

"I was not eating," she said. "I was depressed. I was sad. My diet was coffee."

Ironically, Eva said this was "the time I got the most compliments, because I was so skinny."

"People kept saying, 'You look amazing. Divorce agrees with you,'" she recalled. "And I was like, 'I don't feel good. I have no energy.' I didn't know I was depressed. I mean, I knew it was a sad moment in my life, but I wouldn't categorize myself as depressed."

When Eva went to her doctor, blood tests revealed she "was just depleted of every vitamin." Her doctor explained she was iron-deficient, her liver was overacting, and there were "all these things [that] were physically wrong with my body, so I had to saturate with vitamins and kind of get back onto...track."

Fortunately, the Desperate Housewives star has bounced back from her funk, but she did make some dietary changes. "For about three months, I did a really strict no sugar diet, and I had more energy than I've ever had. My palate was different. Things tasted better."

Food tasting better? Great. But feeling better and being happy and healthy? That's the best.
