It's official, "Fast and Furious" fans!
Universal Studios announced Thursday that "Furious 8" is a go. The eighth installment of the franchise even has a release date: Apr. 14, 2017.
In addition to the announcement, Universal also released a new movie poster for "Furious 8." The pic features Vin Diesel's image over the Empire State Building in New York City. Above him reads, "New City Even Vengeance."
No word yet on the official cast roster for the new flick, but we hope franchise favorites like Diesel, Ludacris, Michelle Rodriguez, Jason Statham, Jordana Brewster and Tyrese Gibson will all we back.
The announcement of another sequel isn't a huge shock given the major success of the latest "Fast and Furious" movie. "Furious 7" has reportedly grossed a whopping $300 million domestically.
Earlier this month, Ludacris opened up to E! News about the possibility of an eighth installment.
"There have been talks about a sequel but nothing has been confirmed in terms of Furious 8, but I really feel like we need to let the fans decide whether there's going to be a Furious 8 and we'll work it from there," he revealed. "Right now we kind of need a moment of silence to reflect on this individual who started the franchise. So rest in peace, Paul Walker."
(Universal Studios and E! are both part of the NBCUniversal family)
