Matthew Morrison Pays Tribute to “Brother” Cory Monteith During Broadway Show

"I came to perform a show, so that's what we'll do. And we'll do it in Cory's honor," he told the audience

The show must go on.

"Glee's" Matthew Morrison (also known on the small screen as William Schuester) took the stage at 54 Below in Manhattan Sunday afternoon for an encore engagement of "Up Close and Personal with Matthew Morrison," his first performance following his costar Cory Monteith's death.

Like many others, Morrison was stunned by the tragic news, but decided to continue with the show and dedicate the performance to his late "brother."

"You guys came to see a show, I came to perform a show, so that's what we'll do. And we'll do it in Cory's honor," Morrison told the audience, according to The New York Times.

At the top of the number, Morrison gave a two-fingered salute. As he finished, he acknowledged that it was "awkward" to continue the performance given the circumstances.

The actor also changed his opening number to an a cappella version of "What I Did for Love," from the musical "A Chorus Line," a number that was featured on "Glee" during the show's second season.

Acting Vancouver Police Chief Doug LaPard confirmed that Monteith was found dead at the Fairmont Pacific Hotel after missing his check-out time on Saturday.

According to LaPard, there were no indications of foul play and they are not discussing what was found in the room. The cause of death was not immediately apparent, but an autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

Many wonder how the Fox show will deal with Monteith's death and how it will be portrayed through his character's storyline.

A source from "Glee" told E! News, "Too soon to tell," and added, "Everyone is in shock. To say that Cory was much loved on the 'Glee' set doesn't even begin to do him justice."
