Huey Lewis Opens Up About Inner Ear Disorder Keeping Him From Singing

Lewis talks Meniere's disease and having to cancel his tour

The 80s music icon Huey Lewis is coming to terms with the idea of no longer being able to perform onstage after discovering he suffers from Meniere's disease, a disorder that causes vertigo, ringing in the ears and progressive hearing loss, he told "Today."

In April, the 67-year-old canceled all of 40 remaining shows on his tour after he was given the diagnosis. Lewis sought medical treatment after performing in Dallas, when he noticed he was having trouble hearing.

"Even though I can hear you, we can talk, I can talk on the phone — I can't sing,'' Lewis told Jenna Bush Hager. "I can't hear music. I can do everything but what I love to do the most, which is a drag."

There isn't a cure for Meniere's disease, but nevertheless Lewis was told his condition may improve.
